As Toronto's premier party rockers Thunderheist roll towards the release date on their too-long-awaited self-titled debut album, due out March 31 via Big Dada, the dance rap duo's outspoken MC/singer Isis is throwing a few verbal jabs at her electro peers - much to her partner Grahm Zilla's chagrin.
"[Crystal Castles"] come from the northern Ontario suburbs, they're not hardcore," says the Nigerian-born, Toronto-raised front-woman of the controversial hipster icons. "At the end of the day people will catch on and see that their stories don't add up. It didn't work for Milli Vanilli, it's not going to work for you."
In a recent interview with Exclaim!, Isis later went after dance pop's hugely popular new sensation Lady GaGa, pulling no punches on the "Pokerface" star who presents herself as an arty, authentic singer-songwriter.
"She's a complete product. It's annoying. Britney was falling apart, right, and they needed a replacement, so they found this girl. But she's just another dumb, ditzy blonde chick that has no goddamn talent whatsoever."
Though the ever-mischievous Isis has clearly no qualms about speaking out, partner Grahm seems a little more Zen about the competition, adding, "Let people be how they're gonna be and we'll catch up to them."
Don't miss Isis and Grahm on Exclaim! TV's Garageland, where host Sam Sutherland managed to catch up with the duo. The episode will begin airing March 28, while the April issue of Exclaim! featuring our Thunderheist cover story hits the streets and net on March 31.
