As you likely remember, earlier this month saw Rogers experience a nationwide service outage that caused a lot of pretty obvious, serious problems — people were unable to call 911, contact family members or make debit transactions — and a few unexpected ones.
One major unexpected consequence was the last-minute postponement of the Weeknd's After Hours Til Dawn tour kickoff, which was set to happen at Toronto's Rogers Centre on July 8. The announcement was made only minutes before the doors were set to open at 6:30 p.m. ET and left many fans in the lurch, including a six-year-old Weeknd superfan named Phoenix Prince.
Prince had already arrived at the venue — dressed, adorably, just like the Weeknd in his "Blinding Lights" video — with his dad, and someone caught a photo of the kid looking despondent on the sidewalk outside the Rogers Centre.
CBC News talked to Prince's dad Blake, who said, "Phoenix was getting attention with his suit. We had a breakdown moment. He got upset over the fact the show was postponed, and somebody captured a picture." Phoenix himself told CBC that if he ever got to meet the Weeknd, he'd tell him "that you're the best artist and that I love your songs and you're so good and I was really looking forward to [the concert]."
Later on the night of the postponement, the Weeknd saw the viral photo and asked his followers to help him find Phoenix Prince, and it looks like he was successful — last night, the Weeknd flew Phoenix and Blake out to Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. Judging by photos posted to Blake Prince's Instagram, it looks like six-year-old Phoenix got the full VIP treatment. He was brought backstage, met the Weeknd, had his lil red blazer signed and was shown around the elaborate stage set. Shit's cute!
