The Weeknd is continuing his quest for world domination, though he's going about it through some unexpected back channels. The current reigning prince of Canadian pop is teaming up with Universal Studios for The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare, a pair of haunted house experiences in Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood.
The haunted houses are part of Universal's Halloween Horror Nights events — running on select dates from September 2 to October 31 — and will be based on songs and imagery from the Weeknd's 2020 record After Hours, which saw him adopt a much bloodier, Halloween-esque visual style.
Songs from the album will play as attendees are "stalked by slashers, bandaged maniacs, gruesome toad-like creatures and other unfathomable horrors from the mind of the artist," according to a press release.
"I always wanted my own Halloween Horror Nights haunted house as Halloween has always been significant to my music, so this is a total dream come to life," Abel Tesfaye said in a statement. "I feel like my music videos have served as a launching pad for a collaboration like this, and I cannot wait for people to experience this madness!"
The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare is only the latest extracurricular that Tesfaye is pursuing — his new show The Idol, starring Lily Rose-Depp and co-created with Sam Levinson, is arriving later this year.
