Ontario two-piece the Standstills are currently on tour in support of Our Lady Peace and I Mother Earth, but watching the stacked Can-rock roster night after night is far from the craziest memory Jonny Fox and Renee Couture will be bringing home at the end of the month.
While driving between shows in Kelowna, BC, and Grand Prairie, AB, earlier this week, the Standstills happened upon a roadside sight that will likely be burned into their brains forever: a grizzly bear devouring a moose.
"At the top of this hill we could see something in the distance, which I thought, it just looked like an animal that was hit by a truck or something," singer/guitarist Fox told Global. "You could kind of see it moving but right at the side of the road."
As they got closer, they realized what they were witnessing and streamed the whole thing via Facebook video.
As Couture can be heard pointing out in the clip, "It's a fucking grizzly bear eating a moose."
Speaking to Global, Fox continued, "It's this massive grizzly bear. It's just feasting on this moose – this dead moose – on the side of the road, and he's just taking chunks out of this thing and it was just crazy. We were kind of like, 'Did that just happen? What? What just happened?' We just experienced this moment of this massive grizzly bear feasting on this moose at the side of the road and we were kind of a little bit in awe."
As he says in the clip, "This is what you get to see when you tour Canada."
