The Blaze Dancehall
Published Sep 05, 2018With their debut album, Dancehall, The Blaze release a longer set of tracks fairly similar to their last EP, 2017's Territory.
The tracks contained on Dancehall attempt to seek the same emotional heights as the best moments on Territory, but fall slightly short by not bringing much new to the formula. The sound palette used on most of the album is similar enough to the duo's earlier material that it at times leaves the listener feeling like it's treading old ground, even if that ground is good. There are exceptions in tracks like "Faces," where the artists dial back the spectacle in exchange for a more tender atmosphere.
It's clear the Blaze are still passionate about the music they make, so listeners looking for an album full of songs like their earlier material are sure to be satisfied. Those looking for adventurousness and growth may not find all that they're looking for. (Sony)
