The Avalanches Start Recording Third Album

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 15, 2017

After making fans wait 16 years since their debut album Since I Left You, the Avalanches finally offered up a sophomore record with Wildflower last year. Now, the Australian electro experimenters have revealed that recording for album number three is already underway.

The band shared a photo of piled up records via Instagram this morning (August 15), with the caption: "LP#3 – Day 1." The collection of music so far includes Sir Victor Uwaifo's To Laugh and Cry and Celia Cruz and Tito Puente's Alma Con Alma, as well as a Buddah Records 7-inch and an LP by the Four Freshman.

And while the band may have only started recording today, they've been hinting at a new record since earlier this year. Back in May, the band's Robbie Chater told Sydney radio station FBI that he and Tony Di Blasi had been writing new material.

"It's flowing so quickly," he said. "I think getting Wildflower out of the way and following up Since I Left You feels like a weight's been lifted. The music is really light, it's some of the best stuff we've done."

Elaborating on when we might expect the new material, he added: "We've got eight songs we're playing to the label on Monday. Who knows when [they'll be out]? Next year? It's definitely soon."

There's still no official word on when a new LP might arrive, but it sounds like it should be at least be before 2032 at this rate.
