Reunited post-hardcore crew Texas Is the Reason recently noted that on top of scheduling some North American dates, they had been tying up "loose ends" in a recording studio. It's now been revealed that those newly recorded tracks will appear on a career-spanning anthology.
Do You Know Who You Are?: The Complete Collection arrives February 12 through Revelation Records. As can be expected, the release features the band's 1996 LP Do You Know Who You Are?, as well as their self-titled debut EP and the songs off of their split 7-inches with the Promise Ring and Samuel.
As for those new tunes, both "Every Little Girl's Dream" and "When Rock 'n' Roll Was Just a Baby" were written back in 1997, but dusted off and tracked in the studio with J. Robbins earlier this year.
"It was kind of like a Brian Eno 'oblique strategies' thing, where the challenge was to write a pop song that didn't actually have a chorus," guitarist Norman Brannon recalled in a statement of the initial writing sessions for "When Rock 'n' Roll Was Just a Baby," which you can stream over here on Rolling Stone. "We were right on the verge of finally signing with Capitol after a years-long bidding war at that point, and I think we were having a reactionary moment. It was like, 'We won't go quietly!'"
He continued: "Gary Gersh, who was the president of Capitol at the time, told me it it was one of the best songs we've ever written and that was really one of the first moments where I ever thought our band could actually work beyond the indie rock world — when the guy who signed Nirvana loved a song without a chorus."
