Windsor, ON, slowcore quartet Ten Year Drought makes quite an impressive debut with this initial six-song offering. Musically, the group is located somewhere between the lush majesty of Red House Painters, the quiet introspection of Rex and the same sort of country influence that underlies the rockier direction of Giant Sand. The band rarely changes tempo throughout this mini-album, instead staying rock solid steady and letting the strong songwriting of guitarist Adam Fox guide the songs down a somewhat hypnotising course. Although the lyrics Fox has written are somewhat buried in his half-whispered vocal approach, his delivery is suited to the type of mood the band has created - dreamy but nowhere near boring.
