Telekinesis Reveals 'Ad Infinitum,' Premieres First Single

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 17, 2015

It apparently took a sonic shake-up to get there, but Seattle-based singer-songwriter Michael Benjamin Lerner has announced another full-length from his long-running project, Telekinesis. The outfit's Ad Infinitum apparently features a more synth-driven sound, and it sees release September 18 through longtime label Merge.

A press release explains that Lerner had been faced with a bout of writer's block in the early stages of crafting the album. While working from his home studio, he allegedly realized he'd maxed out the power-pop direction of his first three records, the last of which being 2013's Dormarion.

He explained in a statement: "I went down to the basement and started playing the same chords I always play… I just felt like I'd exhausted everything I knew. I was not excited at all. I just could not make another power-pop album."

Vintage synthesizers and drum machines helped the indie artist steer himself back in the right direction. Though a full tracklisting has yet to appear, the set includes a number of songs that made use of old-school musical equipment. A download code that comes with the vinyl edition of Ad Infinitum will give listeners bonus tracks "Clickity-Clack," "Froom" and a demo of "Falling (In Dreams)."

Telekinesis revealed its first tease from the record today through Seattle radio station KEXP. Down below, you'll find a stream of Ad Infinitum's synthy "In a Future World," as well as an album trailer.
