Toronto's Tangiers feature Marco Moniz (formerly of Killer Elite), Josh Reichmann, and Yuri Didrichsons and James Sayce, both formerly of the Deadly Snakes. Unlike the Snakes' penchant for Stax Records-injected rock'n'roll, the Tangiers convey prominent pop inclinations, played with an adamant vigour. Hot New Spirits contains first-class song writing, persistent melodies, and brisk tempos that stalwartly display the Tangiers' musical talents. Although Sayce, Didrichsons, and Reichmann all share lead vocal responsibilities, the band manages to achieve a distinguished cohesiveness throughout the disc's 13 tunes. Hot New Spirits is an admirable debut, offering superbly rousing pop rock.
