Earlier this year, Montreal-based singer-songwriter Tamara Sandor delivered a video for "A Thousand Holes." That song served as a preview for her debut full-length Tynes, and now Exclaim! is giving you a chance to hear the record in its entirety a week before its official release.
Emerging from Canada's music creation capital of Mile End, the songs on Tynes are guitar-driven explorations of the singer's "ambivalence toward the idea of self-defence." The album's title is a reference to the Old English word for the structures on animals intended to protect them from predators.
More specifically, individual songs tackle topics like destructive expressions of anxieties ("Tines") and connection or lack thereof in the internet age ("Walls"), while the aforementioned "A Thousand Holes" describes love as a series of breaks in people's defences and "Blood Memory" is equal parts celebration of and rebellion against the human body as a means of protection against chaos.
Throughout the album, Sandor enlists the help of fellow Montreal musicians like Patrick Cruvellier of Smokes, Tim Crabtree of Paper Beat Scissors, trumpeter Craig Pedersen and DIY disco-rockers Future States.
For upcoming live gigs, Sandor will be joined by Patrick Latreille, Mark Beach and Tessa Kautzman, and you can see their shows listed below.
Tynes is officially released on April 19 through Oh Hi, but you can scroll past Sandor's live itinerary and give it an early listen in the player below right now.
