After a lengthy court battle put the future of Verzuz at risk, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have confirmed that their viral cypher show will return for a third season.
The two were on stage at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards to accept the Rock the Bells Cultural Influence Award when they promised to bring back Verzuz.
"Me and my brother created something special, and it ain't over," Timbaland said. "Black-owned Verzuz, me and Swizz Beatz. I'm glad to share this with my brother."
"Like Tim said, we own Verzuz again," added Swizz. "We got quiet for a minute, but we're gonna come back strong and show you what it is. That wasn't just something for the pandemic; that's something for the world."
Born in 2020 with a battle between Swizz and Timbaland themselves as a means of adapting hip-hop entertainment to COVID-19 restrictions, Verzuz has since broadcasted showdowns between industry titans like Alicia Keys vs. John Legend, DMX vs. Snoop Dogg and Earth, Wind & Fire vs. the Isley Brothers.
They merged with social media platform Triller for broadcasting purposes in 2021, but after Triller failed to make the correct payments, the founders sued the service for $28 million USD.
Luckily, the two parties came to a reportedly amicable settlement in 2022, and, from the sounds of it, Swizz and Timbaland will take the reigns for the third season of Verzuz.
