A frequent supplier of vocal accompaniment to the ultra-soulful guitar concoctions of Loren Mazzacane Connors, Suzanne Langille is no stranger to the blues. Connors' songs are often drenched in melancholy; Langille has frequently been right by her partner's side, moaning along with him. On Wild & Foolish Heart, the chanteuse is joined by Indian classical musician Neel Murgai, whose incredibly subtle tanpura drones and sparse percussive patterns on the Persian daf fit perfectly alongside Langille's vocals. Together, the duo rework a couple of popular tunes (Leonard Cohen's "Story of Isaac," Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit"), the traditional "Young Waters" and perform a few of Langille's sorrowful songs. The album culminates with searing, bluesy blow out "Turn Away," featuring Connors and Andrew Burnes on guitar. The sheer emotional weight of this piece is enough to leave one sobbing, head in weary hands.
