Roots-inclined Toronto outfit Sunparlour Players followed their 2011 album Us Little Devils with their Sunparlour Preserves EP in 2012, and now they've returned to the full-length format for another LP. The Living Proof is due out on April 8.
Like Us Little Devils, this album evidently takes a non-traditional approach to roots rock, since a press release promises "shredding guitars, pounding drums, searing synth lines... howling vocals [and] ragged banjo." It was recorded in Toronto with Chris Stringer (Timber Timbre, the Wooden Sky) at Lincoln County Social Club and the Cellar.
According to a press release, "The songs on The Living Proof are living things that exist now. They do not harken back, nor romanticize. They are a forecast of sorts."
Uniquely, the album includes an instructional spoken word track "How to Make Ginger Bourbon Apple Butter," which originally appeared on the aforementioned Sunparlour Preserves. It draws on the band's experience selling their own canned goods at shows.
Scroll past the band's upcoming Canadian tour schedule to revisit that EP cut. The schedule has the band playing shows in Ontario and Quebec in addition to a Western Canadian jaunt.
