While Stephen Malkmus has made a successful leap to solo artist, his Pavement brother Spiral Stairs is making a name for himself simply by means of his good taste. Stairs' Amazing Grease record label is batting a thousand with a string of great pop releases from the Moore Brothers, Oranger and now, Sunless Day. Hailing from San Francisco, this power pop quartet plays incredibly hook-laden rock, pulling together the best elements of psychedelia, punk, mod and garage culture. Think of a pop-infested Stooges or Back In The USA-era MC5 to get an idea for the level of rock energy infused in these catchy pop gems. One of those rare albums that oozes "classic" from first listen.
