Try saying this band's name five times fast! Although their moniker is an ordeal, the debut full-length from Florida's SWWAATS is death metal meets grindcore done well, which is more than I can say for most new bands trying to mash these two genres together. The sound of SWWAATS is violent and threatening, and the lyrical content is a big "fuck you" to all of humanity. The album begins with the deep and aggressive roar of vocalist John Collett in "10,000 Sermons, One Solution," which also includes very fast, thrash-influenced guitar work. Tunes like "Cattle" are filled with blast beats, while "Despot" contains some of the most vicious guttural vocals on the album. The entire release sounds like a mix of Suffocation and Cattle Decapitation, with a touch of Skinless. With the structure of grindcore, death metal vocals and the guitarists' technical shredding, SWWAATS deliver the traditional sound of death metal with a modern grindcore twist.
