A few years ago, it seemed like MF Doom was everywhere, releasing albums under his own name, and the Viktor Vaughn and King Geedorah monikers, as well as releasing his Special Herbs instrumental LPs regularly. Of all his output, most notable was his Madvillain project, a collaboration with Madlib that produced the critically acclaimed Madvillainy LP.
Now, it seems Doom is working under the radar, as very little new material surfaced from the masked MC for some time. Allegedly holed up at work on a proper sequel to Madvillainy, the good folks at Stones Throw are as impatient as us and have announced Madvillainy 2: The Box, a deluxe box-set that includes a comic book, a seven-inch, a remix CD, a T-shirt, and a cassette demo tape. Due September 15 from the Stones Throw website (and pre-orderable until August 15), the $124.99 box will come "wrapped in silver like a mask.
This is what the label had to say about the box:
Yeah, were waiting for the new Madvillain too. Every once in a while we hear from DOOM and he tells us hes getting closer. Madlib still sends him beat CDs. DOOM always remembers our birthdays. But,= we dont have the sequel, and we know every nuance of Madvillainy. So weve been bumping this album while were patiently waiting. And its been good. Like visiting with a friend who you havent seen in years and remembering why you were friends to begin with.
