Having planned for a karaoke feature, payola 2.0, AI-powered plagiarism detection and further data mining, Spotify has now shared news of a forthcoming lossless streaming tier due to arrive in 2021.

As part of today's Stream On virtual event, the streaming giant announced Spotify HiFi, a forthcoming feature that will allow Premium users to "to upgrade their sound quality...and listen to their favorite songs the way artists intended."

Set to arrive in select markets "later this year," Spotify HiFi promises "CD-quality, lossless audio" for "more depth and clarity while enjoying their favorite tracks," which will be compatible with the user's device of choice and Spotify Connect-enabled speakers.

The company notes that "high-quality music streaming is consistently one of the most requested new features by our users." While pricing has yet to be revealed, similar lossless-minded plans from competitors like Amazon and Tidal retail for $14.99 USD and $19.99 USD a month, respectively.

Spotify roped in Billie Eilish and FINNEAS to help with the announce, and you can hear them extoll the virtues of higher quality audio below.
