Going by the original Poltergeist film and the trailers for its upcoming reboot, there's perhaps no image more frightening or iconic in the series than an eerily static-streaming television. With that in mind, Austin rock vets Spoon are playing things a bit on the nose by contributing a cover of ghoulish garage greats the Cramps' equally classic "TV Set" to this latest film's soundtrack.
It's a fairly straight-forward rendition of the Songs the Lord Taught Us number, with Spoon likewise trafficking in panicked, 12-bar blues patterns. Though Britt Daniel's vocals tend to land extra cool, the cover has him tapping into the zaniness of the late Lux Interior with a ticklish collection of yelps and cries. It's fitting that it plays a little crazy, considering it has a line or two about lopping off someone's dome and placing it on top of a 40-inch Toshiba
