There will be a "prohibitively expensive" vinyl release of just 12 copies

Gloomy Vancouver pop project Sort of Damocles have released a new album. The Only Thing I Hate More Than Myself Is Cops is streaming now.

As with past album Shame + Obligations, this latest release is co-credited to Sentimental Jug Band. It was self-produced by band leader Chris van der Laan, with mixing from Jesse Gander at Raincity Records. It features vocals by Melissa Gregerson and Joyelle Komierowski (although an instrumental version of the album will follow in May), plus instrumental contributions from an assortment of collaborators, who each self-recorded their parts.

The Only Thing I Hate More Than Myself Is Cops is a shadowy collection of lo-fi noise sketches and spooky tunes, with horror-tinged snippets interspersed with the dirge "Good King Wanda," the goth-pop perfection of "VSS Exit Prize / Cut & Cut Deep," the mascara-streaked bounce of "How Long It Glows (More Arms)," and more.

In addition to the digital release, there will be a lathe-cut vinyl run of just 12 copies through Boat Dreams from the Hill on March 25. In an announcement, van der Laan wrote that these will be "prohibitively expensive."
