Vancouver's SonReal — a.k.a. Aaron Hoffman — is back with a new EP. i can't make this up drops on August 20 via Black Box, following the release of singles "bank on me" and "bananas." The northern hip-hopper also plans to make a 16-date trek across Canada this November and December.
Based on the title alone, the EP — which marks the follow-up to SonReal's 2019 full-length The Aaron LP — sounds like Hoffman is gearing up to drop some quarantine-spurned truth bombs.
The artist elaborated on the collection in a statement:
This EP was a very full-circle moment for me because I recorded the majority of it by myself — which is how I started making music. Something is special about this body of work to me. My producer Trevor [Muzzy] and I were forced to think outside the box — I had to get back to recording my own vocals in a bedroom; no flashy studio, nobody to do the work for me. There's something special about that and it made me hungry to be better. Though this is only 5 songs, it feels like a mini-album and shows what we are capable of. This is only the beginning. i can't make this up."
Sometimes, getting back to basics is exactly what you need to begin your next ascent.
