Slowride

Building a Building

BY Stuart GreenPublished Oct 1, 2003

Dallas power-trio Slowride take the foundation they dug with their debut and erect an elaborate and complex structure of creatively dense, sneering ’70s-tinged gutter punk and classic riff rock with a heaping scoop of power pop to sweeten up a little. Think Swervedriver, the Pixies and the Cramps jamming together. The result for Slowride is a collection of driving rock songs — "Smoke Cigarettes" and the title track among them — with a few surprising although not entirely out of place acoustic ditties — "Solitary Man,” "Sacrifice v. Apathy" and "Quitting Again" thrown in for variety.
