Slowmotion Apocalypse

My Own Private Armageddon

BY Laura TaylorPublished Jun 1, 2005

Swedish death metal done Italian style, with a little hardcore and thrash thrown in, Slowmotion Apocalypse are definitely not slow and not terribly apocalyptic either. Highly melodic leads and harsh vocals are the two strongest elements throughout the album, although they’re backed by an unshakable rhythm section. The band’s name better describes their vision than their sound, and their "Private Armageddon” seems likely to take place in the midst of mass destruction. Death is the dominant theme on My Own Private Armageddon, occasionally on a grand scale, as in "Vote for Extinction.” Just the same, the album’s more uplifting than disheartening in the end, a cathartic release of violent metal fury.
