Early Monday morning (May 24), Slipknot bassist Paul "The Pig" Gray was found dead in an Iowa-area hotel room. Police were called to investigate after Gray's body was discovered by a hotel employee. The bassist was 38 years old.
Gray was one of four original members of the nu metal ensemble, and had been playing bass with the band since 1995. Besides Slipknot, he also filled in as a member of Reggie and the Full Effect for their Last Stop: Crappy Town album.
While Gray's cause of death has not been specified, many suspect that it was drug-related. There is no evidence of foul play, but the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday (May 25) and toxicology test will also be conducted.
As the Des Moines Register reports, Gray was arrested on drug-possession charges after police found cocaine, marijuana and two syringes in his car in 2003.
Gray is survived by his wife, who is pregnant with their first child.
