Following up on last week's "To B. Curtain," Vancouver post-hardcore quintet Slim Fathers have now unfurled the rest of their riff-twisting sophomore set, Goldie Hawn in the Blue Light.
That propulsive first preview, which Exclaim! said was marked with "a tapestry of psychedelic, interlocking six-string lines," lands second on the set, following the brief noise piece "Community Covenant." The rest of the set likewise showcases Dann Tompkins and Mark Colavecchia's engaging fretboard activity, but plays comparatively calmer on '90s alt-rock-leaning "Outhouses of the Holy" or "Boo Hooray!", a track balancing vocalist Courtney Christine Ewan's gold-dust cries with a shimmering, VanGaalen-ish garage pop arrangement.
Goldie Hawn in the Blue Light is out digitally and on cassette via drummer Chris van der Laan's "Boat Dreams From the Hill imprint.
