After the endless on-again, off-again drama that has been the American/Canadian Carnage Tour featuring thrash metal giants Slayer and Megadeth, our last posting about the affair announced that everything seems to have been settled and the bands will finally make up the rescheduled dates. If you will recall, the tour was delayed due to Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya requiring back surgery due to his unusual headbanging style. At that, he can't 'bang no more.
Thankfully, nothing else has changed regarding the tour other than one interesting little tidbit: as Megadeth have been performing their most popular full-length Rust in Peace in its entirety as part of a cash grab - er, celebration - of their 20th anniversary, Slayer have opted to do something similar.
During the Carnage dates, Slayer will forego pushing their latest effort World Painted Blood in order to pay respects to their own most revered effort, 1991's Seasons in the Abyss. Comments on what that says about World Painted Blood aside, it will be interesting to see a whack of aging metallions take a trip down memory lane - on both sides of the stage.
In the official press release, Araya revealed that he's doing a lot better after working out that nagging back. "I'm feeling great and anxious to get back on the road," he said.
Guitarist Kerry King added, "We've been sitting home for six months... I can't remember the last time I wanted to tour so bad."
