Skydiggers

'She Comes into the Room' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 1, 2013

This year, Toronto's Skydiggers are celebrating their 25th anniversary will four new releases. The latest of these is She Comes into the Room, which finds the band redoing some of their past tracks with female vocalists. Ahead of the collection's October 8 release, it's available to stream on Exclaim.ca.

The album includes seven new versions of back catalogue favourites, plus the previously unreleased cut "Weak Little Heart." The guest singers featured here are Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies, Oh Susanna, Saidah Baba Talibah, Damhnait Doyle, Angela Desveaux, Ivy Mairi, Alejandra Ribera and Skydiggers cohort Jessy Bell Smith.

The new versions of the tunes don't find the band straying far from their roots-y folk-rock wheelhouse. Of course, the fact that all of the tracks are fronted by female vocalists means that it's a twist on what fans have come to expect from Skydiggers over the past two and a half decades.

She Comes into the Room will be followed by the seasonal EP Good King later this year. In the meantime, stream the new record below.

Skydiggers will play a 25th anniversary show at Toronto's Winter Garden Theatre on October 19. Tickets can be purchased here.

UPDATE: This stream was available for one week only and is no longer available.
