Siriusmo

Mosaik

BY Ashley HampsonPublished Mar 1, 2011

After a decade on the scene and countless remixes for the likes of Boys Noize, Scissor Sisters, Digitalism, A-Trak and Chromeo, Siriusmo is finally ready for the release of his debut LP, Mosaik, on Modeselektor's label, Monkeytown. Siriusmo is the equivalent of a one-man band: washboard upfront, cymbals between his legs, bass drum and horns at his feet, except he's also wired to mixers and synthesizers, managing to play them all in a strange yet compelling way. First single "Feromonikon" uses undulating synths and Justice-esque interludes, while the music box intro to "Bad Idea" quickly rolls into dirty, high speed, wobbling bass and choppy helicopter synths. "Feed My Meatmachine" feels like a musical hybrid of Flying Lotus and Shinichi Osawa, its flighty, upbeat loops layered overtop swells of hi-hat and woozy keys. Mosaik draws influence from disco, pop, electro, hip-hop and countless other genres, and with a decade of experience behind him, Siriusmo's debut LP is well worth the wait.
