With their new album OUFOUFOF, SHXCXCHCXSH present a collection of hypnotic tracks that ring and clang like machines stuck in an endless loop.
Each track consists of multiple sounds based around the same rhythmic pattern, and as a result the music is entrancing, as rhythms remain the same while individual sounds get filtered out and morphed beyond all recognition. The percussive sounds on the album feel almost alien, highly specialized for the purpose of transforming these tracks into twisted anthems; more than easy enough to dance to but still demented enough to be subterranean.
"FFUFFUFU" in particular begins by hissing and buzzing at its edges with grainy textures and tones before building to a momentum that would fit almost any dark dance floor, and the rest of the album is just as satisfying. Ultimately, the experience of listening to OUFOUFOF is like being bombarded with mechanized polyrhythms until you can dance no more.
