Short & Sweet are a pair of Newfoundland sisters whose music can't easily be categorised - not quite folk, not quite country and definitely not traditional. For the most part, it sounds a lot like the Indigo Girls, but that's probably due more to happy coincidence than calculation. The songs are kind of romantic and sweet, and the one cover, a Lennie Gallant song, is well chosen, fitting in with the general feel of the CD. But even more importantly, their own songs manage to hold their own against ones by more established artists. The most obvious problem is that vocal harmonies are hidden way down in the mix - they should dominate rather than be an afterthought. But despite some small problems, We'll Never Know is an accomplished debut worth investigating.
