Shady Blaze is chapter five of Green Ova Undergrounds, the fifth and final artist signed to Main Attrakionz' label. Inspired by the death of his son, The 5th Chapter speaks to a generation of plugged-in kids, encouraging them to think for themselves and be creative. It's a personal, inspired and technical album, the result of many hours in the studio. Mondre and Squadda (Main Attrakionz) kick things off with "Fucked Up," using Auto-Tune to help listeners better understand their brand of cloud rap. Blaze spits a single verse, introducing us to his relentless flow and conscious approach. "No Brakes" follows a couple of tracks later, demonstrating Blaze's ingenuity. Responding to N-Pire Da Great's tag, Blaze literally attacks the beat with an impressive double-time flow, and then he growls, in case the producer thought he was slick or something. "Rap is No Sport," produced by Toronto's Fameless trio, is another standout, tackling the theme of rappers treating the industry like a game. "Some can't even rap, they just like to entertain, then a nigga like me gets dirt on his name," spits Blaze, with the conviction of a young Andre Nickatina. Independent to its core, The 5th Chapter lacks the slick feel of a major release, but makes up for it with heart.
