serpentwithfeet has announced a unique theatrical dance show, Heart of Brick, inspired by the songs of his upcoming album and produced by New York City's renowned Joyce Theatre.
Capturing the spirit of Black queer nightlife, the show tells an unlikely and moving love story that occurs in a Black gay club.
"The dance floor has been a medium for Black queer people to decompress and build community," the Brooklyn-based experimental musician born Josiah Wise said in a press release. "Going out has given me incentive to go inward and I am a better person because of it. Engaging the body is essential to engaging the spirit. I have Proof."
Heart of Brick features performances by an all-star team of queer Black dancers. It was co-written by Wise and acclaimed poet Donte Collins, directed by multimedia artist Wu Tsang, and choreographed by dance-theatre artist Raja Feather Kelly.
The show's international premiere will occur in Hamburg, Germany, at the Kampnagel Festival on August 10. The domestic premiere will take place September 13 at Joyce Theatre in New York City, followed by a US tour from September 24 to November 1. So far, no Canadian dates have been announced. Ticket sales begin July 13 here.
