On November 13, a new documentary titled Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill — about the undersung and deeply troubled 1970s singer-songwriter who inspired countless artists — will premiere in New York as part of the 2022 DOC NYC Festival.
And today you can watch the trailer, which features some familiar faces including Fleet Foxes, Big Thief's Adrianne Lenker and Weyes Blood. In the clip, Fleet Foxes introduce a cover of Sill's heartbreaking 1973 song "The Kiss," while Lenker and Weyes Blood discuss Sill's influence on their lives.
The trailer also features interviews with David Geffen (who discovered Sill), Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne and Shawn Colvin.
Sill was the first artist signed to Geffen's Asylum Records in 1971. She released two albums — Judee Sill and Heart Food — before dying of a drug overdose in 1979 at the age of 35.
Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill explores the visionary artist's short life and lasting legacy, and you can check out the trailer below.
