Screaming Females are saying goodbye — the New Jersey rockers took to their socials today to announce that they're breaking up after 18 years as a band.

In their announcement, the band wrote:

After 18 years we have decided that Screaming Females is coming to an end. A lot changed around us over those 18 years but at our core we operated pretty much the same throughout. We funded and made the records we wanted to make.

We did our own art, we printed a lot of our own merch. We managed ourselves. Probably most importantly we loaded up our van with our gear and travelled around the world to play shows wherever you would have us. We tried to build and celebrate community the best we could.

There are too many people to thank and too many things that should be said but right now.

They close the statement by asking fans to scoop up the last of their available merch — the holidays are coming in fast, so go ahead and grab something for the Screaming Females fan in your life.

At the beginning of November, the band cancelled the remainder of their 2023 shows, citing a family emergency.

Frontperson Marissa Paternoster and bassist Mike Abbate started making music together as a duo in high school before enlisting drummer Jarrett Dougherty and forming Screaming Females in 2005. Since then, they've released eight albums — including this year's Desire Pathway — the last six of which were put out on Don Giovanni Records.

Paternoster put out her solo debut, Peace Meter, in 2021.
