Following last year's Lillie: F-65 (the first new album from doom masters Saint Vitus since 1995), the L.A. group have re-released their two previous records, C.O.D. and Die Healing, with new and improved expanded editions via Season of Mist. The 1992 classic, C.O.D. (also known as Children of Doom), features Count Raven's Christian "Chritus" Linderson performing vocals (his only recording with Saint Vitus), making it a unique offering in Vitus's eight-album catalogue. Melancholic, dark and passionate throughout, Linderson's vocal style melds well with Dave Chandler's powerful, hazy guitars, with the album featuring some of Vitus's most archetypal groovy riffs. From the crushing title track to the otherworldly "Planet of Judgement" to exceptionally heavy dirge "Plague of Man," C.O.D. is a singular effort that marks an important moment in Saint Vitus's career. Superbly remastered and featuring two bonus tracks ("To Breed a Soldier" and "The Chameleon"), this reissue gives new life to this once underrated gem.
