Said the Whale

"Helpless Son" (lyric video)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 25, 2013

Vancouver indie outfit Said the Whale are best known for their uptempo pop-rock anthems, but their latest music video from hawaiii finds them at their most contemplative and emotional.

"Helpless Son" is an aching ballad about watching a parent's health deteriorate, and the accompanying video brings the concept to life by showing a series of young folks alongside their older family members. They hold up the lyrics on sheets of paper while gazing blankly at the camera.

It was shot an edited by the band's own Tyler Bancraft (who sings the song). Said the Whale wrote on YouTube, "Dedicated to anyone who has had to watch a loved one suffer." It premiered on USA Today.
