Ryan Adams Scraps New Album and Throws Away the Tapes

"The best thing about analog tape is you can literally throw it away and start over"

Are you excited for Ryan Adams' upcoming new album? Don't be. Despite previously revealing that he was 11 songs into his next full-length, the prolific songwriter has now confirmed that he has scrapped the whole thing and started over.

Adams broke the news today on Twitter. When a fan asked about his new LP and his plans for the rest of the year, he responded that he had "scrapped everything" and added, "The best thing about analog tape is you can literally throw it away and start over." Presumably, he's talking about the material he teased last month.

Evidently the songs he was working on felt stale, and he explained, "I was letting myself fall into those worn out concepts of design & obligation." He's already started work on a new project, although it sounds like this is still in the early stages. There's no word as to whether the Valentine's Day single "Baby I Love You" will be included on the new album or if that's also been scrapped.

Tragically, he also added that his brother passed away when he was wrapping up the tour behind last year's Prisoner. He wrote, "I am still broken. He's gone. It hurts to play."
