Russian Circles Reveal 'Empros'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 22, 2011

Artsy yet punishing prog metal band Russian Circles have been offering up polyrhythmic brutality for a few years now, and the Chicago-based group will keep up the intensity with their fourth full-length, Empros.

The metal trio will unleash their next record on October 25 via Sargent House, and it just might be their most intense offering yet.

Described by the press release as "a radical revision of both heavy and melody," Empros follows up 2009's Geneva and injects "evermore slithering rhythms amid skull-crushing heft with all the visceral intensity of Godflesh, Swans and Neurosis." The album was recorded at Chicago's Phantom Manor by producer Brandon Curtis (The Secret Machines, Interpol).

"Elsewhere, there are beautiful moments of melodic respite, helping to underscore the album's majestic strength," the statement adds.
