Rudimentary Peni

No More Pain

BY Keith CarmanPublished Oct 25, 2008

As with all Rudimentary Peni albums, No More Pain is a grower. It takes time to fully appreciate their awkward anarcho-punk tendencies. And by that, it’s the trashy distortion, basic beats and uncomplicated songwriting more than their Crass-inspired political leanings that can be off-putting. However, once the layers behind No More Pain begin to unfold, these ten tracks fit perfectly into the band’s rough-hewn catalogue. Still playing late ’70s gutter punk and overlaying it with an ominous, cryptic atmosphere, not much has changed for these boys since 1981. Those who appreciate such staunch adherence to the past will adore No More Pain. Everyone else will have no fucking clue what this brash noise is all about.
