Winnipeg's Royal Canoe have dug into a prolific decade's worth of rarities, B-sides and demos for new retrospective collection Vault 2011-2021. Ahead of its release in full tomorrow (March 11) via Birthday Cake, they've shared a stop-motion lyric video — animated by MIMI and the band's own Matt Schellenberg — for lead track "Worm" featuring Dill the Giant.
"Vault (2011-2021) is a collection of 10 songs that were pulled from a long list of unreleased demos, B-sides and oddities that have been accumulating on our various hard drives over the past decade," the band shared in a press release.

These songs are the underdogs, the overachievers and the almost-fits that we just couldn't quit. During this past winter we dusted off old backups, scoured mp3-vaults and even went back to the studio to finish up a few tracks that were uncompleted but long-time favourites of the band. For us, each song on Vault feels like a brief journal entry that captures a simple, but meaningful moment from the past decade of us making sounds together.
In specific, the traipsing glints of single "Worm" date back to 2017, when Royal Canoe was working on what would become 2019's Waver. "As we were collecting the songs to include for Vault, this was near the top of everyone's list," the outfit said. "The song had such a dark, heavy feel to it and was always begging for a rap verse, so we brought in Dill the Giant who dialled in the vibe perfectly."
The collection follows their latest LP, last year's Sidelining, which they'll embark on a Canadian tour in support of next month.
