Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has revealed he's been secretly battling cancer yet again during the pandemic.
Speaking to the UK's Sun newspaper, the 73-year-old confirmed he recently was up against a rare and aggressive small-cell cancer, but he has now been given the "all-clear" from doctors. Previously, Wood had been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017.
"I've had cancer two different ways now," Wood said in the interview. "I had lung cancer in 2017 and I had small-cell more recently that I fought in the last lockdown."
Small-cell cancer can spread rapidly and is typically found in the lungs, though the disease can also appear in the prostate, pancreas, bladder or lymph nodes. Wood, however, did not offer any further specifics about his specific condition.
He did, however, speak about overcoming the disease yet again, most recently crediting his hobby of painting with helping him through this latest bout with cancer. He also said his past battles with overcoming addiction played a big role in his recovery.
"I'm going through a lot of problems now, but throughout my recovery, you have to let it go," he explained. "And when you hand the outcome over to your higher power, that is a magic thing. That brings you back to the Serenity Prayer: 'Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.' That's incredible. What will be will be, it's nothing to do with me."
He added: "All I can do is stay positive in my attitude, be strong and fight it, and the rest is up to my higher power."
Wood previously faced lung cancer back in 2017, leading him to undergo surgery to remove part of his lung. He then stated he was cancer-free in 2018.
