Rod Stewart Leaving Rock 'n' Roll Behind After 2023 Tour

"Everything has to come to an end sooner or later"

Rod Stewart revealed in an interview with BBC that he will pivot away from rock 'n' roll after the completion of his 2023 tour.

Stewart, 78, said in the interview that he had just completed a swing album with pianist Jools Holland slated to come out next year, and also referenced his genre-hopping 2007 album The Great American Songbook to give an idea of the sort of things he will be working on.

"So I just want to leave all the rock 'n' roll stuff behind, for a while maybe," said Stewart. "Everything has to come to an end sooner or later… I'm really looking forward to doing something else, especially singing with Jools' band. It borders on rock 'n' roll anyway, it's just not 'Maggie May' and 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?'"

This isn't the first time Stewart has spoken about his plans. Last year in an interview with Forbes, Stewart said, "I want to move on and just do the classics and the swing stuff, but I don't want to be singing 'Hot Legs' when I'm 80. I'm not retiring, but this will be the last time we do these songs in America. I just want to make a clean sweep. I want to go on tour with a big band and just play this stuff that I love."

However, the change won't be immediate — Stewart has tour dates lined up until November, with the North American leg starting July 29. It includes seven Canadian stops if you're not ready to say goodbye to "Hot Legs."

Stewart also revealed plans to do a song with Boy George, who is accompanying him along with his band Culture Club on the UK leg of his tour. See the North American schedule below.
