Rick Fielding plays what can only be called classic Canadian folk. This particular troubadour seems to fall into the void left behind by Stan Rogers, while his personal style owes much to the tradition of the Pete Seeger, Gordon Lightfoot and Tom Paxton. His strong-yet-gentle vocals drive this hearty collection of songs, which include a sprightly series of self and co-penned originals, illustrating Fielding's seamless songwriting skills as they demonstrate his substantial picking ability on banjo, guitar, mandolin and autoharp. His "Catspaw's Rag" and "Sing With The Angels" songs demonstrate his particular folk edge, which is his well-steeped allegiance to bluegrass, gospel and blues. Toronto folk celebs including Grit Laskin, Tony Quarrington, Chris Whiteley and Curly Boy Stubbs guest on this tidy, satisfying recording.
