Pop-rocking Montrealers Reversing Falls have an album in the works, but before they release it in early 2016, they are sharing a stand-alone loosie called "Are You There?"
The song begins with sweetly chiming arpeggios and a drum machine, and the full band kicks in after half a minute, turning the track into a crunchy pop anthem. But while the instrumentation is punchy and rocking, the vocals are run through a hazy psych filter, giving the song a sense of downcast dreaminess. The drums were played by Jamie Thompson of the Unicorns.
Singer-guitarist Tyler Crawford explained in a statement, "'Are You There?' is the first track we recorded for our new album sessions. As we shaped the album into its final form, we decided this track lived in a different world than the rest."
The band will perform a hometown show at Montreal's Bar Le Ritz PDB on October 8.
