Reggie and the Full Effect

Under the Tray...

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jan 1, 2006

The one-man-band alter-ego of Coalesce drummer/Get Up Kids keyboardist James Dewees, RATFE is a wicked combination of '80s synth-pop, mallternative rock, hardcore, death metal and kitschy comedy; think the Cars, Pet Shop Boys, Weezer, They Might Be Giants and Venom blended into some kind of delicious and dangerously addictive potion. An Atom and His Package for the more ironically inclined. Injected into the instantly memorable tunes are hefty doses of humour and nods to the previous releases including the second appearance of a character named Klaus, the singer from Finnish death metal band Common Denominator, who insists on hawking T-shirts instead of extolling the virtues of dwarfism. Make sense? Of course not, but it's damn funny as is a diss on the fashion sense of one "April Lapine."
