The Ready Set

Stays Four the Same

BY Sheena LyonnaisPublished Dec 7, 2009

I really want to give acts like the Ready Set a chance, but without the backing of a band, these independent encounters with MySpace stardom sound hollow and insignificant. Jordan Witzigreuter writes rapid, wild vocal rhythms paired with schizophrenic keys, but the fluffy, frantic Reason sound effects cheapen his intentions. While he prides himself on his independence, he could benefit from some creative input in order to add some much-needed dimension and provide a bigger sound. Fans of NeverShoutNever and Breathe Carolina probably already know the Ready Set due to non-stop touring, but if they don't, here's another dose of sugary pop to rot your teeth. At only three tracks, Stays Four The Same feels a little short for this ambitious, young musician, but it's long enough to conclude that despite its pep, this isn't the kind of sugar that sticks.
