Fans hoping for that elusive new Rage Against The Machine album will have to keep holding their breath, as Rage guitarist Tom Morello has just formed a new group with the Coup rapper Boots Riley. Known as Street Sweeper Social Club, the duo will release their debut record on June 16.
In a press release, Tom Morello describes the band's songs as "revolutionary party jams," saying, "[The album's] got huge steamroller riffs combined with depth-charge funk, while Boots unloads clip after clip of incendiary rhymes rich with satire and venom." Boots Riley also described the album's themes, saying, "This is a time when the working class is being fleeced left and right. More families will be homeless and more people will be jobless. They'll need something to listen to on their iPods while storming Wall Street."
The duo have been confirmed as the opening act for the previously announcedNine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction tour, thereby adding in spirit a third '90s alt-rock staple to the event.
