Tom Morello's Street Sweeper Social Club Cover M.I.A. and LL Cool J on New EP

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 17, 2010

With Street Sweeper Social Club, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello teamed up with the Coup rapper Boots Riley to combine their highly political messages with aspects of rock music and rap. The duo released their self-titled debut last year, and have since been relatively inactive. However, they've announced their return with the release of a new EP.

Called the Ghetto Blaster EP, the seven-track release will feature four new songs, a remix of album track "Promenade" and, most interestingly, covers of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" and LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out." While we don't know where to even begin with the LL Cool J track, the live version of their M.I.A. cover below is one of the most unnecessary reworkings in recent memory.

The EP will be self-released on July 27. A tracklisting is available below, and we recommend you keep an eye on their MySpace page for more info.

Ghetto Blaster EP:

1. "Ghetto Blaster"
2. "Everythang"
3. "Paper Planes" (M.I.A. cover)
4. "The New Fuck You"
5. "Scars (Hold That Pose)"
6. "Mama Said Knock You Out" (LL Cool J cover)
7. "Promenade" (Guitar Fury remix)
