The long engrossing search to fill the heavy shoes of rapper Christopher "Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace has finally come to an end with the casting of Jamal Woolard, aka the Brooklyn-based rapper Gravy, in the upcoming biopic Notorious.

The Fox Searchlight film will also feature actors Derek Luke (Friday Night Lights, Lions For Lambs) as Biggie cohort Sean "Puffy Combs”, Angela Bassett (How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Strange Days) as Biggie’s mom, Voletta Wallace, and Anthony Mackie (Half Nelson, We Are Marshall) as rival Tupac Shakur.

There is one aspect regarding this movie that has raised some concern. Initially Gravy was cast for this role almost two years ago, but the studio put the casting decision on hold to open auditions up to the public any and every overweight hustler they could find only to return to their original choice. Why? A possible explanation is Gravy's acting skill, since he has no acting chops thus far.

George Tillman Jr. (Soul Food , Barbershop) is set to direct Notorious, which has received a release date of January 16, 2009.
