Nova Scotia-born and Toronto-based artist Rachel Bobbitt has released moving new single "More" about the repression of women's rights within the medical system.

The protagonist in the accompanying Justin Singer-directed music video for "More" stands as a self-insert for Bobbitt, who wrote the powerful anthem as a woman whose pain is often disregarded as inevitable.

"It's all about this body that I have, suffering from the migraines I've inherited from my mom," she explained in a release. "But it's also about how some people see women as being made for having children, something I don't even necessarily want at this point."

As a teenager, Bobbitt made a name for herself on Vine by uploading covers of Leonard Cohen, Frank Ocean and Bon Iver songs, anxious to be exposed to a wide audience at an impressionable age and excited to do what she loved. When the app went down in 2017, Bobbitt was grateful for the purpose it served: "It gave me time to step back and think about what I wanted to create for myself," she said.

Now, Bobbitt is set to perform in Toronto at Lee's Palace on May 26 in support of Sunflower Bean. With her new song featured on NPR Music's All Songs Considered, the tightly-woven, layered ballad is the first taste of what's to come.
